Interpreting
I offer a range of interpreting services to meet the needs
of my clients. I offer the following modes of interpreting:
Simultaneous Interpreting
A simultaneous interpreter interprets the words of the speaker simultaneously into
the target language. This type of interpreting takes place either in a booth or with
portable equipment used for whispering interpreting. In both cases the people listening
receive the translated text through their headsets.
Simultaneous interpreting is highly intensive work that is usually performed in a team
of two interpreters, so that they can take turns at regular intervals.
Whispered Interpreting
This interpreting technique is employed if there are only a few listeners who do not
understand a speaker, and the interpreter literally whispers the interpretation.
Consecutive Interpreting
Consecutive Interpreting is when the interpreter translates or summarises after
each of the speakers' contributions to a conversation. During consecutive
interpreting, the speaker stops every 1-5 minutes (usually at the end of every
paragraph or complete thought) and the interpreter then steps in to render what
was said into the target language. It is appropriate for one-to-one and small
informal group interpreting. It is generally used for meetings, presentations
and training courses etc.
Ad-Hoc Interpreting
Ad-Hoc interpreting is also known as liason interpreting. In principle ad-hoc
interpreting is any assignment where the subject matter is unprepared, such as
in interviews and diplomatic visits.
